Cloud-based KNX bus recorder
Stop guessing, start recording.
KNXSENSE is a manufacturer-independent platform for recording the KNX bus in the cloud. A recorder installed on site connects outbound: no open ports and no static IP address are needed. If the site already has remote access, the recording can run over it.
You supply the recorder, we handle the recording. Often there is already a device on site that can serve as the recorder.
When your customer asks why the lights came on in the middle of the night, you have an answer – your competitor has a guess. KNXSENSE keeps the entire history of the bus, telegram by telegram, which makes your work easier in many ways:
The KNX system is monitored around the clock, with real-time alerts to your inbox. KNXSENSE spots an anomaly straight away – not you on your next visit.
A fading sensor, a sticking actuator or a recurring error at the site shows up in the recording, often before the customer notices it.
A large share of problems is solved without driving to the site, and with remote ETS access the fix can often be made in the same sitting.
The recording separates a system fault from a change made by the user or by a third-party device: it shows what sent the command and when.
Charts and usage history show how the site’s heating, lighting and control logic behave, and how to fine-tune them for the best result.
The recording shows what has happened at the site, so you can approach the customer with a concrete observation: the heating has run at full output all through June.
KNXSENSE keeps the KNX bus monitored even when you are not on site. Every event on the system is recorded to the millisecond, around the clock, on our secure servers.
Telegram-level history reaches 400 days back on a rolling window. You can open it in any browser, on any device, without the ETS software.
The KNX Assistant answers any question about your site, drawing on the project, the recording and its own extensive knowledge of KNX. It analyses how the system behaves, tracks down faults and works out their root cause like an experienced integrator. Based on what it observes, it also suggests improvements to your programming and parameters.
With the Assistant you can save hours of valuable working time. Even the toughest problems are solved in moments.
Try it yourselfOutdoor lighting control 0/3/7 received an ON command on 18 Sep at 12:41 and 19 Sep at 13:05. Both times the command came from presence detector 1.2.14.
The detector’s lux value 0/7/0 dropped below 120 lx during a rain shower just before the command. The twilight threshold is the same at midday as at night.
Channel C of device 1.1.10 measures the washing machine’s power and sends an OFF command to 2/0/6 10 s after the power drops below 5 W. The valve is driven by output J of actuator 1.1.8.
The delay comes from the output timer: 1.1.8 › Output J: Water valve › Timer, Switch-off delay = 15 min. Shorten it if you want the valve to close as soon as the wash ends.
The know-how of a seasoned KNX integrator, on hand at every site 24/7 – always just one question away.
The Assistant analyses the system with more than 30 different algorithms and builds from them a precise picture of the site and how it behaves.
The Assistant picks up the smallest anomalies and dependencies in bus traffic – the ones the human eye would miss.
Finding the fault is only half the job. The Assistant tells you exactly how to fix it – no guesswork, no trial and error.
The Timeline shows several group addresses stacked on one time axis, whatever their datapoint type, so you see at once how they affect one another.
Bring outdoor and indoor temperature and the heating control into the same view, for example, or outdoor lighting and outdoor brightness. Sunrise and sunset times for the site’s location and the weather data come with them.
Click any moment to open its telegrams right below the chart. Save your view to reopen it in one click, or switch to Live mode and watch the bus in real time.
KNXSENSE automatically charts every measured value in your KNX project – in the right unit and the right format, based on each group address’s datapoint type.
Click a group address in the Monitor to see its latest value, average, minimum and maximum at a glance. A min–max band around the curve keeps even brief spikes visible when you zoom out to a whole month.
The Project view shows group addresses and topology in the ETS structure you already know, and adds new dimensions to them that let you see how your project really behaves.

Open a secure remote connection from your browser and program the site in ETS as if you were there.
Remote access runs over the same route as the recording, so no separate firewall ports need opening.
One login shows every site you maintain, live, in a single view, wherever in the world they are. No manufacturer- or device-specific portals, licences or separate apps. KNXSENSE grows with you, from a handful of sites to an entire portfolio.
KNXSENSE’s setup assistant walks you through the right settings step by step. The whole setup takes only a few minutes.
Setup is a one-off job. When updates to the recorder are released, they are installed automatically – no action from you, no visit to the site.
KNXSENSE is built by experienced KNX integrators who also rely on it every day, in the office and on site – from commissioning to troubleshooting and maintenance.
Every feature grew out of a real need on a real site. The service is developed continuously, and new features are tested on real sites before release.
No setup fees, no lock-in.

The trial is started with a payment card, which is not charged during the trial. You can cancel at any time, in which case the subscription does not continue and the card is not charged.
Otherwise the subscription continues after the trial on an open-ended basis, and can be cancelled at any time, taking effect at the end of the current billing period.
VAT is added at the applicable rate.
Anyone working professionally with KNX systems: integrators, contractors, designers and facility managers.
The service is always ordered and billed in a company’s name. You don’t need to be a KNX Partner or hold any other certification. KNXSENSE is an independent service and is not affiliated with KNX Association.
Yes. The account owner can invite other users – the company’s own staff, for example – and give each of them the access rights they need.
The number of users does not affect the price; that depends on the number of sites and on any add-on services you use.
No. The Monitor, Timeline, Charts and KNX Assistant all run in your browser without ETS.
You import the ETS project once during setup so group addresses get their proper names – after that you only need ETS if you want to program the site remotely.
The recorder needs a device on site that is always on, has an internet connection and is connected to the KNX bus — either directly or through a KNX/IP gateway. It can be one that’s already there, or one installed specifically for KNXSENSE. See supported recorders →
No. The recorder runs on controllers from several manufacturers, and we are continuously evaluating new devices for support. See supported recorders →
Yes, provided the recorder is connected so that all of the system’s traffic is within its reach.
A recorder connected to the KNX bus through its own bus terminal sees the traffic on its own line plus everything the line couplers pass through from other lines onto that line. A recorder that reads through KNX/IP gateways sees the traffic of several gateways at once, and no telegrams need to be routed from one line to another.
Guided setup takes you through the settings step by step. After that, KNXSENSE compares the addresses it sees against your ETS project and tells you straight away if a line or a device is not visible to the recorder. Coverage is monitored continuously, so you always know what is in the recording and what is missing from it.
No. The number of devices, lines or telegrams does not affect the price: KNXSENSE is as much at home in a detached house as in a large hotel.
The price is based on the number of sites.
Recorders with local storage write telegrams there immediately and do not mark them as sent until KNXSENSE has confirmed receipt. When the connection returns, the accumulated telegrams are transferred to the server with their original timestamps and in the right order: not a single telegram is lost. If the outage lasts long enough to fill the local storage, the oldest data is overwritten.
Recorders that are read through the device's own remote access have no local storage. On those, an outage leaves a gap that is documented in the recording. See supported recorders →
Yes. KNXSENSE sends alerts to your inbox when a site goes offline or a fault is detected. Each user chooses which alerts they receive.
Because KNXSENSE records every telegram on the KNX bus around the clock, a fault can be located afterwards, even if nobody was on site when it happened and the bus was not being watched in the ETS bus monitor. You narrow down the time, read the telegrams and see the sender. When you put the suspect group addresses on the same axis in the Timeline, cause and effect separate. You can also ask the KNX Assistant directly which device or parameter is behind it.
Yes. With most recorders the ETS tunnel is established through KNXSENSE. If the device does not support that, the device's own remote access is used. Either way you program in ETS with no ports opened on site. See supported recorders →
Never on its own. The only exception is remote access, where your own ETS writes to the bus on your instruction.
No. A recorder installed on site makes the connection outbound, and no open ports or static IP address are needed; the recording works behind a shared carrier IP address too. Recorders that are read over the site's own remote access use the route that is already in place. All traffic, remote access included, is encrypted.
All traffic between KNXSENSE and the site is encrypted, and you can enable two-factor authentication for logging in. Our servers and backups are located in Finland, within the EU, and data is backed up daily.
The KNX Assistant is built on Anthropic’s Claude language model. No data that identifies the site is shared with the language model, and your data is never used to train models.
Import the latest version so every address gets the right name. If addresses show up on the bus that aren’t in the project, KNXSENSE flags them – often the first sign that the documentation has fallen behind.
Yes. The imported project file is stored encrypted and you can download it again at any time – a last-resort backup if your own computer dies. The project password is never stored.
Telegram-level history is kept for 400 days and stays searchable the whole time. Long-term charts are kept for as long as your account is active.
No. KNXSENSE only stores the data from your sites. It is never sold, and it is not used for anything other than running the service.
You can export it in a machine-readable format at any time while your account is active, and once your subscription ends the data is deleted in accordance with the Terms of Service.

Yes. For as long as the subscription is active, a company may use the KNXSENSE Partner mark on its own website and marketing material.
Supported devices have a KNXSENSE Compatible mark of their own, which the manufacturer may use in its own material. The marks, the files and the terms →
